Ogier appoints new Partner

Ogier has appointed Jonathan Hughes as a new partner with effect from 1st February 2012.

Jonathan joined Ogier in 2007 and specialises in commercial property. He qualified as a Jersey Advocate in 2011 and was the project manager of a 35 strong team of lawyers in both Jersey and Guernsey which acted for Waitrose when it acquired five supermarkets from Sandpiper in October 2010.

Before moving to Ogier Jonathan qualified as an English Solicitor in 2000 and an Australian Solicitor in 2005 having worked for a number of years at the international law firm Baker and Mackenzie in both London and Sydney. He has extensive experience in retail and office commercial developments, corporate re-locations, commercial leases and the hotel and leisure sector. In Australia he developed an expertise for the commercial property aspects of Goods and Service Tax and is regarded as an authority in this area in Jersey having given a seminar on the subject at the Institute of Law.

The Ogier Property team has also announced the recruitment of a new Senior Associate Katharine Marshall. Katharine qualified as an English Solicitor in 1997 and joined the property team from Pitmans LLP where she was a director specialising in residential developments, high value residential transactions and property finance. Katharine started her legal career as a litigator and also has experience in building and planning disputes.
