CIOT Jersey event

Pomme d'Or Hotel

Monday 2nd March , 8:30-10:00

Building on the success of the last event in December, which was very well attended, the Jersey branch committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation held a breakfast seminar on Monday 2nd March 2009 at 8.30am to 10.00am at the Pomme D'Or Hotel, Liberation Square, St Helier, Jersey.

This event provided an update of where Jersey is placed with regard to international tax matters. Colin Powell, Adviser on International Affairs, Chief Minister's Department, and Malcolm Campbell, the Comptroller of Income Tax, gave a joint presentation providing an overview of the current position on Tax Information Exchange Agreements, covering recent negotiations, operational aspects and administration of the agreements, in addition to an update in respect of the latest proposals under the EU Savings Directive. The speakers took questions from the floor after their presentation.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) is a registered charity and is the leading professional body in the United Kingdom concerned solely with taxation. The CIOT deals with all aspects of direct and indirect taxation. Its primary purpose, and that of the Jersey branch, is to promote education in and the study of the administration and practice of taxation. One of its key aims is to achieve a better, more efficient, tax system for all affected by it - taxpayers, advisers and the authorities. This has never been more relevant to the island as it is now.
