Senator Philip Ozouf, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister for Treasury and Resources
Senator Philip Ozouf was elected as Minister for Treasury and Resources on 11 December 2008, and subsequently appointed as Deputy Chief Minister.
Born in Jersey in 1970, Philip Ozouf was educated at Victoria College and went on to the European Business School in London, Frankfurt and Paris. He then worked for one of the world’s largest multi-nationals on a range of projects across Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and the United States.
In November 1999, he stood in the Deputy elections in the Island’s largest constituency and topped the poll. In his first term he sat on various Government committees including Housing, Industries and Public Services.
In the 2002 Senatorial elections he topped the poll and was appointed Vice President of the Finance & Economics Committee. In March 2004 he was elected President of the Environment & Public Services Committee.
In December 2005, on the introduction of Ministerial Government, he was nominated as the Island’s first Economic Development Minister with political responsibility for all economic sectors including Finance. During this period the Island saw significant economic growth and low inflation.
In December 2008, he was re-elected as a Senator and elected Minister for Treasury and Resources and Deputy Chief Minister. He is responsible for oversight of public finances and States assets. He is currently re-structuring the Treasury and improving Financial Management across the States. Over the next six months he will also be leading a comprehensive spending review of the Island’s spending.
He sits on a number of bodies including the States Employment Board (Vice Chairman) and the Constitutional Sub Committee. He is a keen linguist and is also Vice Chairman of the Alliance Française.
Outside the States his interests include skiing and travel.
