What led you to your career path?

After graduating I was certain I wanted to work in the finance industry but unsure as to the specific area within finance that would be the best fit for me.

After working in a bank for a year, I started to look into my different options and in that time spoke to several people who work in the trust industry, all of whom gave me very positive feedback. I researched the industry, including what my options would be for further professional qualifications, and decided I wanted a career in this area.

How did you progress to your current position?

After initial training with my colleagues, I worked hard to gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of my job, including a broad understanding of how the whole business works. I was then given my own portfolio of clients, which I am responsible for on a day to day basis.

I chose to further my professional qualifications and am currently studying towards my ICSA Professional.  After just under a year with Jersey Trust Company, I was promoted from an Assistant Administrator to an Administrator, which was a great reward after all my hard work.

What advice would you give to current students considering a career in finance?

My recommendation to students looking for their ideal career path would definitely be to research each particular industry. Looking at job descriptions is a great way to understand what each type of job entails and I would also recommend speaking to people that you may know who work in that area, as they will be able to help you decide if a similar career path is the right one for you.
