Jersey Finance is delighted to be hosting our ‘Asia Community of Interest Group’ meeting taking place virtually on Tuesday 31 January 2023 between 9.00 am – 9.45 am (GMT) on MS Teams.

This event will be hosted by Maria McDermott, Business Development Director – Greater China, and Yiow Chong Tan, Business Development Director – South East Asia, they will provide a regional update on mainland China, HK, Singapore and Malaysia as well as an update on our activity for 2023.

Maria McDermott › Business Development Consultant – Asia, Jersey Finance

Maria is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and an associate member of the Chartered Governance Institute.

Born in Jersey, she has over twenty years’ experience working in the international finance industry and is experienced in investment funds, private wealth, compliance, risk management and project management.

She has been based in Asia for the last ten years having transferred to Hong Kong from Ogier Fiduciary Services Jersey to develop the fiduciary services business in Hong Kong. During her time in Asia she has also worked for various listed entities and financial service providers in Singapore and Shanghai, and is now based full time in Shanghai.

Prior to her time in Asia she spent over ten years working for a number of law firms and fiduciary service providers in Jersey.

Yiow Chong Tan › Business Development Director – South East Asia

Yiow Chong Tan joined Jersey Finance in September 2022 as our dedicated Business Development Director in Singapore, with his remit also covering the surrounding South East Asia region.

Yiow has extensive business and corporate finance experience in the Asian markets where he has been consistently involved in the origination, marketing, structuring, negotiation, due diligence and execution of private equity, stock exchange listings and M&A deals across Singapore and Malaysia. In a previous role, he identified and built close working relationships with Chinese high-net-worth clients and institutional investors to secure and raise funds for mandated clients.

Most recently, he was the Corporate Finance Director and Board Secretary of a Chinese Family Office which has investments in Chinese data centres and UK commercial properties. Prior to that, he held director and consultant positions with various Singapore-basedbusiness consultancy firms working out of Shanghai in Mainland China.

A Singaporean, he has a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Accounting Degree with First Class Honours from the University of Leeds and is fluent in English and Chinese Mandarin.

Christine Li

Christine Li Head of Research, Asia Pacific, Knight Frank

Christine is the Head of Research, APAC at Knight Frank. She has over 15 years of industry experience, curating and co-ordinating regional forecasts and market outlook for clients across the office, industrial and residential sectors as well as specialist asset classes such as student accommodation, multi-family and data centres. Her insight and in-depth knowledge of real estate market is also well sought-after by both the local and international media. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Cornell University (US) and a Master of Arts degree in Media and Communications from University of London (UK).
