Throughout 2020, Jersey Finance will be hosting a funds masterclass series delving into the key initiatives impacting the funds sector to audiences in a number of locations across the globe.

Our second event, taking place at the Sofitel St James in London on Wednesday 25 March, will bring experts in their field together to discuss the major initiatives impacting private equity from trends in fund structuring, co-investment, AIFMD and substance through to tax and regulatory developments.

Breakfast and registration will begin at 7.45 am where there will also be ample opportunity to network before the event begins at 8.15 am.

Ben Robins

Ben Robins Partner, Mourant

Ben Robins is a funds partner, and currently head of the global funds practice, at Mourant Ozannes. Ben has extensive experience in investment funds, with a practice focusing on the formation, operation and financing of private equity, venture capital, real estate and debt funds and investment structures. As a former Chairman, Ben remains an active committee member of the Jersey Funds Association (JFA), is a member of the BVCA's Channel Islands committee and a member of AREF's Public Affairs Committee. In addition to this, Ben has been a long standing active participant in a number of Jersey finance industry working groups, including Jersey's AIFMD and OECD tax initiatives working groups. Nigel van Zyl

Nigel van Zyl specializes in advising asset managers, institutional investors and investment advisors across the full spectrum of investment fund matters. Praised for his keen business sense and practical approach, Nigel advises leading international fund managers on all aspects of their fund business, including the formation, raising, maintenance and ongoing operation and compliance of their investment funds. Michael Johnson

Michael Johnson Group Head of Funds Services, Crestbridge

Michael is the Group Head of Fund Services and is responsible for continuing to grow and evolve Crestbridge’s overall funds proposition. With more than 17 years’ experience in international financial services, Michael was previously Head of Fund Services in the Channel Islands for a large global administrator and was instrumental in developing the firm’s funds strategy. He has also worked in London and New York for a large asset manager. Michael is a qualified person for the purposes of acting as a director of regulated entities and has experience in this role on boards across the alternative asset classes but primarily Debt, VC, Growth, Buy-Out, Real Estate, Fund-of-Funds and Life Sciences. He is the Vice-Chair of the Jersey Funds Association and a Chartered Accountant.

Mike Jones

Mike Jones Director of Policy and Risk, JFSC

Mike Jones is Director of Policy and Risk at the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC), and a member of the Executive team. Mike’s primary remits are developing and effectively implementing regulatory policies to benefit the Island and leading the organisation on enterprise risk management. Mike regularly represents Jersey at international fora responding to global regulatory standards and was responsible for the Island’s response to the AIFMD Directive. He previously assisted with redrafting the IOSCO principles and methodology in relation to Collective Investment Funds and Hedge Funds. He also plays an active role in domestic innovation and Fintech. Mike joined the JFSC in 2000 on the first graduate trainee programme. During his time at the regulator, he has undertaken three secondments in Australia, London and Jersey. Mike is an alumni of Harvard Business School and a chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments. He also holds the Certific

Elliot re-joined Jersey Finance in November 2018 from Crestbridge where he managed their Management Company Services Group.

Elliot is focussed on defining strategy and execution of marketing Jersey as both a domicile and destination for Hedge and Private Equity Management Companies and Funds based in the UK, US Switzerland and Europe.

Elliot moved to Jersey in 2006 to establish a Macro strategy Hedge Fund under the Ermitage umbrella for whom he also seeded other Macro / CTA strategy Hedge Funds.

Elliot founded the Jersey Hedge Fund Managers Group aimed at linking the growing community of local Managers and is a committee member of the Jersey Funds Association.
