Forward-Thinking Infrastructure Workshop

Speakers

Faizal Bhana › Director – Middle East, Africa and India, Jersey Finance

Faizal is a UK qualified lawyer and for many years has worked and advised, and is a trusted advisor to institutions, corporates and families across the Middle East, Africa and India. Faizal specialises in banking and finance and has advised corporates, family offices and families including on their international investment and holding structures.

Faizal is responsible for developing the strategy for Jersey Finance’s engagement in Africa, the Middle East and India. He is focussed on his key markets, regularly travelling to all these countries, liaising and working with key stakeholders, including public and private institutions, corporates and families, building long-term mutually beneficial relationships.

Peter Kasanda

Peter Kasanda Partner, Nairobi/Dar es Salaam, Clyde & Co

Peter has a wealth of experience advising on projects in Africa acting for lenders (both commercial and development finance institutions), consortia and project companies. He has successfully closed several projects in the power, infrastructure, telecoms, and energy sectors on the continent. Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Peter was in-house counsel at the African Development Bank having previously trained and worked at a leading law firm in London leading project finance transactions in emerging markets. Peter currently manages Clyde & Co's office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Jared Kangwana

Jared Kangwana Managing Partner, Nairobi, Clyde & Co

Jared has gained experience dealing with clients of varying requirements within Kenya and other East African jurisdictions. He has been recognised by the Business Daily “Top 40 under 40” as a leading commercial lawyer in Kenya which extends to his practice in banking and insurance. Given the unique blend of specialist knowledge and ability to understand issues affecting different professions and industries, Jared’s practice has diversified to include specialisms as broad as Mergers & Acquisitions, debt recoveries and insurance claims management. Prior to establishing Kangwana in association with Clyde & Co, Jared worked in-house at an insurance company in Kenya.

Chris Kandie

Chris Kandie Executive Director, Nairobi, Lion’s Head Global Partners

Chris Kandie is an Executive Director at Lion’s Head Global Partners, an emerging markets focused Investment bank, and is based in Nairobi. Chris has over the past decade advised private and public sector clients in Africa across the infrastructure and real estate sectors helping develop innovative financing structures and raise capital both privately and through the capital markets. Prior to joining Lion’s Head, Chris worked at EY as part of their transaction advisory team. Chris holds a B.Sc in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi.

Anne Mutahi

Anne Mutahi Specialist in SME Development & Financial Services, Nairobi

Anne has a wealth of experience in the financial services sector, having worked professionally in several regulated financial institutions in senior and high-level capacities. She has worked for Middle East Bank in Nairobi, ABN AMRO Bank, and Citibank. Having held senior management roles as Senior Corporate Banking Manager, she made a shift into the SME side of the business in 2000, when she was appointed as Vice-President – Head of Small and Medium Business Enterprise Unit in Citibank’s Nairobi branch. In January 2004 she left Citibank to become Chief Executive Officer of Jitegemee Trust Limited, a wholesale microfinance institution, where she served until December 2008. In this role, Anne was able to interact and finance a range of SME front-facing institutions ranging from CBO’s, Saccos, non-deposit-taking financial institutions, and microfinance institutions.

Nikhil Hira

Nikhil Hira Regional Representative, Nairobi, Eastern Africa Association

Nikhil Hira is the Regional Representative of the Eastern Africa Association, and a partner in Kody Africa LLP. He holds a formidable skills set, particularly in tax advisory work and tax dispute resolution, honed in East Africa, India, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. Nikhil is a Non-Executive Director of I&M Bank Kenya Ltd and I&M Bank Rwanda Plc. He also chairs the board of GA Insurance Limited in Kenya. He was formerly senior tax partner for Deloitte in the East Africa region. Nikhil is a well-known presenter and commentator on tax and economic issues in East Africa. He is a former council member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya and he also sat on the Tax & Public Finance and the Professional Standards Committees. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya.

Christopher Dungan

Christopher Dungan Regional Director - Middle East, Fiduchi

Christopher is an experienced professional with a demonstrated history of more than 10 years in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Fiduchi, he worked in banking – with a focus on Middle East private clients – based in Dubai and Jersey. He is a qualified investment professional. Christopher is responsible for growing Fiduchi’s Middle East business. Through his wide-ranging regional network, he services clients, both high net worth individuals and corporate institutions, offering them a range of bespoke fiduciary solutions. In order to further grow Fiduchi’s Middle East market penetration, Christopher re-located to Dubai in December 2018 as Regional Director of Fiduchi Limited (DMCC Branch). In what little spare time Christopher has - thanks to his two young sons - he enjoys tennis, reading spy novels, and is looking forward to improving his elementary Arabic.

Robert Monticelli

Robert Monticelli Senior Director - Private Client Services, JTC Group

Robert is a Senior Director within JTC’s Private Client Services division and is responsible for a team that manages a diverse portfolio of high net worth international clients. He has a strong focus on client service and oversees a number of structures incorporating various asset types ranging from real estate to yachts and aircraft. Robert’s role also encompasses business development in Southern Africa, where he carries out a regular visitation programme. Robert is an experienced trust and estate practitioner with over 35 years’ experience in the financial services sector, of which nearly 20 were spent working with AIB Trust in Jersey.
