Degree Open Evening for On-Island Degree on 28 September

Tuesday 12 September 2017

Year 13 students have the opportunity later this month to hear about how they can study for a degree and gain paid work experience at the same time.

Jersey International Business School University Centre’s degree open evening on Thursday 28 September 2017 will be supported by some of the Island’s leading financial services employers, including Barclays, Moore Stephens, Sanne Group, Alex Picot and Mourant Ozannes.

The event takes place at Jersey International Business School at the Weighbridge at 17:30. Students and their parents are invited to learn more about the two-year BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree, which is studied on Island and awarded by the University of Buckingham.

Students in Year 13 who are currently considering their higher education options for October 2018, and recent school leavers, will find the open evening particularly helpful.

The degree covers a range of subject areas in addition to pure financial services, including: law, accounting, economics, taxation, compliance and risk management and marketing. The condensed two-year structure means students can save over £50,000 compared to studying a three-year degree in the UK.

In addition, students have the opportunity to apply for paid work experience two days a week for the duration of the degree as part of the Undergraduate Employment Programme (UGEP). Each employer takes a different approach, providing work in different sectors and roles, but they all offer work placements throughout the two years of degree study.

A number of UGEP partners, including some of the world’s leading financial services organisations, will have a dedicated area at the open evening, allowing students to talk to company representatives. Students can find out more about the variety of industry sectors and roles they could be working in as part of the rotational programmes.

Emma Boustouler, degree programme director, said:

“Should I study for a degree or should I get a job? Ask any Year 13 student and the thought of both will likely be in their minds. The benefit of the degree at Jersey International Business School is that students can get the best from both. The can complete a full degree in just two years, while also gaining practical, real-world industry experience in a financial services organisation.
The open evening will be supported by our partners from the Undergraduate Employment Programme. The aim of the evening is to showcase the degree and student life at the University Centre, to help students making that all-important decision about what will best suit their long-term interests.”

The Degree Open Evening takes place at Jersey International Business School on Thursday 28 September at 17:30, and entry is free for students and parents. To find out more about the degree visit www.studyinjersey.co.uk/degree
