Over 750 Islanders completed the challenge, which involved walking the equivalent distance from Jersey General Hospital to Southampton General Hospital, which is 164 miles, throughout the month of February. The funds raised will go towards the charity’s goal to support up to 75 families throughout 2021.

The event raised a staggering £88,088 for the charity through sponsorship from individuals, teams and local primary and secondary schools who each walked thousands of steps throughout the month to achieve the 164 mile goal.

As part of the challenge there were a number of prizes available for individual top fundraising as well as a trophy for the corporate organisation with the highest number of entrants and a trophy for the local schools who participated.

The winner of the Grace Crocker 164 Mile – Corporate Cup is Brooks Macdonald, who had over 50 entries. Andrew Shepherd, CEO, Brooks Macdonald International said “We are proud to support local events and charitable causes and our team certainly love to walk, so I can’t say I’m surprised by this achievement! I am delighted that we got to play our part in raising funds for this incredibly worthy cause and we look forward to donning our walking boots again next year.”

The winner of the Grace Crocker 164 Mile – School Cup has been very difficult to determine between Beaulieu Convent School and Grainville school who between them had over 250 students, teachers and parents and other family members participating. It only feels appropriate to have two trophies to celebrate the wonderful support and the presentations will take place over the coming weeks.

Chairman, Allan Wood said: “The 164 challenge has been an incredible event. The charity has been overwhelmed by the support of local Islanders young and old. It has been wonderful hearing about people looking forward to getting their miles in each day and enjoying being outside throughout February, despite the elements being challenging at times. Every single person that took part should be immensely proud of what they have achieved, and we are extremely grateful for the amazing support. Thank you to everyone who donated, this money will help local families here on the island when they need it most. We hope to see more people taking part in the Jersey to Southampton Hospital Challenge next year.”
