The 2012 Swimarathon, which will take place Wednesday to Sunday 7 to 11 March next year, has already attracted 354 teams, 70 more than at the same time last year. Consequently the event organisers, the Lions Club of Jersey, are urging teams who have either provisionally booked their swim times or who are still considering taking part to register with the Swimarathon Administrator as soon as possible, to ensure that they get to swim at or as near the time and day they prefer.

‘So far, the forthcoming Swimarathon has attracted more interest than ever,’ says Lions Club spokesman Lion Peter Tabb. ‘We believe this is because we will be devoting a very significant proportion of what is raised to the Island’s youth organisations as a tribute to the late Hannah Johnson, the Lions Club of Jersey’s Young Ambassador of the 21st Century 2009 who tragically died aged 19 earlier this year.’

At the time of the launch, Mark Capern, head of the States Youth Service, said that this funding means clubs and organisations can continue to broaden their activities and services to meet the needs of young people, and will be a fantastic bonus for all positive work done by them.

For the sixth year running, RBC Wealth Management is sponsoring the event. ‘To have over 70% of the lanes booked three months ahead of the Swimarathon is a great result,’ said Chris Blampied, Managing Director, Royal Bank of Canada (Channel Islands) Limited. ‘We’re delighted that the island’s longest-running charity event continues to go from strength to strength. We hope the money raised at next year’s big swim will make a real difference to the young people in Jersey.’

Information and registrations are available from the Swimarathon Administrator, PO Box 397, St Helier, Jersey JE4 9ZX or via e-mail
