Deloitte has strengthened its Risk and Regulatory Advisory service offerings, recruiting Anna Sabiston as a risk and compliance specialist, and promoting Alex Armstrong to Senior Manager specialising in financial instruments advisory and controls assurance reporting.

Anna holds an ICA International Diploma in Compliance and has over 12 years’ experience working in industry in the specialised environment of financial crime prevention and regulatory compliance. Having previously worked as a Compliance Officer, holding the roles of Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Money Laundering Compliance Officer, she has significant experience of the challenges local businesses face in today’s complex regulatory environment and her insights will enhance the advisory services offered by Deloitte.

Anna explains: “Keeping on track with the developing regulatory agenda both locally and internationally is essential for local businesses. I am looking forward to supporting clients who face ongoing challenges to balance effective use of their resources with the need to ensure delivery and implementation of robust compliance frameworks across different business sectors within an evolving regulatory environment.”

One of her first priorities is to conduct the fifth annual Offshore Deloitte Compliance Officer Survey due to be published in early 2016. It will provide a unique picture of Jersey-based Compliance Officers’ collective view of the current and future compliance framework that will help inform development of future strategy.

Deloitte has also promoted Alex Armstrong to Senior Manager within the Risk Advisory team. Alex has over seven years’ experience in managing advisory engagements and reporting on operational issues including fund services controls reviews. He played a central role in review of businesses and the provision of advice to regulated entities on the adequacy and effectiveness of their internal controls procedures. He has also worked within banking & capital markets and the investment management sectors on treasury advisory, complex financial accounting and reporting, and assurance engagements across the Jersey financial services industry, with a number of banking and private equity clients and other alternative asset class funds.

Alex commented: “There have been a number of high profile public interest cases in recent years that highlighted the importance of robust systems of internal controls developed within a risk appreciative and sensitive corporate governance framework. Investors and regulators alike are demanding greater operational transparency and accountability. Furthermore, the recent finalisation of the new UK GAAP and IFRS financial instrument reporting regimes offer some of the most exciting opportunities for clients to re-evaluate their risk management and hedging strategies.”
Andy Isham, Partner leading Deloitte UK’s Offshore Advisory practice welcomes the development: “The continued growth of our advisory business is an important part of our strategy to support local businesses. Anna’s extensive practical industry experience combined with Alex’s specialist knowledge and connectivity into the UK and wider Deloitte network mean we can further expand our capacity to support current and future clients with bespoke programmes and solutions, from assessment, gap analysis and benchmarking to external investor reporting of controls processes and procedures.”
