The Appleby Jersey office proudly sponsor Jersey Golf Development (JGD) who provide young people within Jersey schools and in the community, the opportunity to try golf and benefit from professional coaching in an accessible, safe and fun environment.

The largest event that the JGD stage each year is the ‘Appleby Golf Festival’, held at Longueville driving range. The festival involves 370 year 3 children from 11 Primary schools, making it "One of the largest Primary schools Sports Festival held in Jersey."

This year’s event took place on Monday 8 June. The children all saw a trick shot display by Tommy Horton (Jersey's very own Golf legend) and Wayne Stephens (former European Tour player). The children were spread across the golf range taking part/competing in 32 tri-golf games. During the whole day the children were excited, enthusiastic, fully engaged and most importantly thoroughly enjoying themselves! A "Power Hitting" show by Long Drive champion Matt Nicolle (Assistant Pro at Les Mielles) was a ‘hit’ with the children, he can hit it alon…………………g way. The youngsters were so impressed they kept shouting for ‘more’, until Matt hit his last ball so hard it exploded! Much to the enjoyment of the children.

The day finished with each school being presented with a certificate entitling each child who attended to a FREE golf lesson courtesy of the Les Mielles Golf Professionals and a FREE 18 hole round on the Breakers Realistic Minature golf course at Les Mielles, courtesy of the Le Brun family. Wayne Osmand Head of Jersey Golf Development and all the volunteers did such a brilliant job, with every child leaving with a smile on their face. Notes on JGD: Since JGD started in 2009, over 7,000 children have benefited from FREE professional coaching through the group’s activities in 34 schools, sports festivals, health & fitness days, golf festival, youth clubs, cubs and brownie packs. Demand for the groups work has grown very quickly, mainly due to the success and positive feedback it has achieved in every school/group it has visited.
