The Jersey Love Hearts Appeal is to hold its annual Barn Dance, the Hoedown Showdown at the Royal Jersey Showground on Saturday 13 July 2013. This year, the event has a new sponsor – leading Jersey legal and fiduciary firm Appleby.
The Love Hearts Appeal has been established in Jersey for three years and is supported Island-wide in raising funds for children with heart conditions at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. This year’s event coincides with a visit to the Island by bestselling author and Love Heart’s Appeal Patron, Bill Bryson. His attendance at the event will kick start a week of activities designed to encourage organ donors to sign on to the NHS donor register, as well as raising funds for the Appeal.
Appleby Partner, Richard Prosser commented; “The Love Hearts Appeal strikes a chord with many people in Jersey and Appleby is honoured to be sponsoring this event. Great Ormond Street Hospital continues to change young people’s lives every day in Jersey and the funding of research offers a better future for so many children and their families. By helping to increase awareness of the need for individuals to sign up for organ donation the Appeal will help to ensure that many more lives are saved.”
Last year over 450 people attended the Appeal Barn Dance which involves live music, dancing and of course fundraising.
Neil MacLachlan of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Love Hearts Appeal added: “Thanks to Appleby our annual Barn Dance will yet again be a key feature in our fundraising this year. In 2012 the Appeal exceeded its fundraising target of £110,000. We’ve been amazed by the support that we have received, and we are continuing our efforts this year to raise funds for the vital and ground breaking research into cardiac conditions in paediatric patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital, as well as focusing on raising awareness of the importance for individuals to register on the NHS Organ Donor Register.”
The Appeal’s awareness week in Jersey coincides with the NHS’s organ donation national awareness campaign. The funds raised by the Appeal will also help towards the costs of a number of different research projects that take place at GOSH all of which will have the potential to change many lives for years to come. Jersey relies heavily on this wonderful children’s hospital and over the last five years alone there have been nearly 1,000 visits to GOSH by Jersey children.
