Appleby has stepped in to help with the cost of getting Year 3 children at Plat Douet School to their weekly swimming lessons at Langford Swimming Pool.

Historically, this service has been jointly funded by the school and the PTA, but funding pressures were making it more difficult for the school and the PTA to meet these costs. Without the coach service, it would be very difficult to get all Year 3 children to the pool each week.

Appleby has worked with a number of local primary schools in recent years. It has worked with Plat Douet School since 2008, when staff members regularly helped children with their reading as part of a wider schools reading programme set up by Appleby.

Suzanne Conoops, Head Teacher at Plat Douet said: “On behalf of the school I’d like to thank Appleby for stepping in to meet the gap in funding our swimming lessons. This is the only chance many of our pupils have to receive regular swimming lessons, and some are learning to swim for the first time. We value our relationship with Appleby and look forward to working together in future.”

Michael O’Connell, Office Managing Partner for Appleby in Jersey added: “We are pleased that we have been able to help safeguard swimming lessons for Year 3 children at Plat Douet School. Our work with local primary schools – both through coaching programmes and individual projects – has had a positive impact and this is something we are proud of.”
