Ashburton Investments has announced a series of Board appointments and promotions within its investment team as it continues to strengthen its business in Jersey and extend its coverage into new markets.

Tristan Hanson, Head of Asset Allocation, and Jonathan Schiessl, Head of Equities, have both been appointed to the Board of Ashburton (Jersey) Limited, whilst Alan le Maistre and Craig Farley have taken up new investment positions.

A key area for Tristan and Jonathan, who between them have almost thirty years of experience in the investment industry, including twenty combined years with Ashburton, will be a focus on new business development.

Tristan, Head of Asset Allocation, is responsible for guiding and leading the implementation of Ashburton’s investment philosophy across its core multi asset product range, a strong legacy which Ashburton has built up over thirty years of global investing. Tristan joined Ashburton in 2008, having previously worked as a strategist for JP Morgan Cazenove for seven years.

Meanwhile, as an investment director based in Jersey, Jonathan leads Ashburton’s global equity teams with a focus on specialist and regional teams, in particular India, China,  Africa and Energy. He joined Ashburton in 2000 having previously worked for Bank Julius Baer and other financial institutions in London.

Peter Bourne, Managing Director of Ashburton International, Jersey, commented:

“I am pleased to welcome Tristan and Jonathan to the Board. As long-standing members of our investment team, their combined wealth of knowledge and expertise will make a significant contribution to the company’s future growth. They bring considerable experience in asset management to the governance of the Ashburton International business in Jersey, especially as we look to extend our distribution into new markets.”

At the same time, Craig Farley has succeeded Jonathan as lead Investment Manager of Ashburton’s Chindia Equity Fund, having worked closely with him on both the Indian and Chinese markets for a number of years. Craig, who joined the company in 2003, has played a key role in ensuring positive results for the fund over the past three years, making him ideally placed to meet this new challenge.

Alan Le Maistre has also been promoted to Investment Manager. As well as continuing to work on Ashburton’s Global Energy Fund, he will also take on a new role as a member of the Global Equity Strategy Forum.  Alan joined Ashburton in 2007 and recently achieved the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Bourne said: “In addition, I’m delighted that we have been able to recognise Craig and Alan’s dedication and investment expertise in this way. Not only does it bode well for the growth of our business, it demonstrates our ongoing focus on developing talent and strengthening our team in Jersey.”

These appointments come a year after Ashburton became part of Ashburton Investments, the investment management business of the FirstRand Group. Since then, the Jersey-based business has successfully delivered a suite of new solutions for clients through its UCITS IV platform and at the same time, confirmed its commitment to the local market.
