The Head teacher and parents of St John’s school joined forces with Barclays Wealth employees recently for phase one of an ongoing nature project at the school.

It was all hands on deck at the school as everyone worked together on the first part of a two-part project to provide a new garden area and nature trail for the children. The area was cleared and prepared for planting which will take place in September when the children are back from their summer break.

Andrew Willis, Head teacher of St John’s school is delighted to see the project coming to life.

‘The new garden and nature trail are the final phase of a three year project which has kindly been supported by the Parish who granted us access to their land. We are very grateful to the Barclays Wealth employees who have generously given their time to help with the manual labour. This has been a very exciting project for both staff and children at the school and I know that the children will benefit enormously from its completion in September.’

Barclays Wealth was approached for support through employees whose children attend the school. The decision to support the project was finalised following reports of vandalism which affected some of the school’s learning gardens.

‘The news that the school had been a victim of vandalism stirred a number of our employees and we were pleased to be able to demonstrate our support of the school’s environmental efforts through our staff volunteering scheme,’ said Paul Savery, Country Manager, Barclays Wealth Jersey.

‘Barclays Wealth strives to support the local community through the volunteering scheme and we are all very much looking forward to seeing the fruits of our labour when phase two is completed in September.’
