Will Stead and Jamie Hillion recently undertook work experience at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management as part of the scheme and were so successful during the three month placement that they were offered permanent roles. They join Dan Gallichan who was also hired after taking part in the scheme and was promoted last year.   Advance to Work (ATW) is one of a number of employment schemes that provides young people in Jersey with employment training and work experience in an area of their choice.    The States of Jersey scheme is aimed at 16-19 year olds and is designed to act as a bridge between school and the workplace. The scheme provides a combination of personal mentoring, training and work placements to improve its trainees’ chances of securing paid work.   Core training includes CV writing, job search and interview techniques, team building and computer skills. Trainees will also receive training in their area of interest and have the opportunity to retake exams to improve grades.   Barclays supported six Advance to Work trainees through work experience in 2013 and the business is currently finalising three further placements for this year.   Sarah Bartram, Joint Head of Administration of GI&S Trusts at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, works closely with the young people who take part in the scheme.   “Barclays has been working with the Advance to Work scheme for over four years. The placements also allow time for the young people to reflect on their chosen career path.”
