Barclays Wealth Jersey will again give away a total of £25,000 to help local charitable and community projects through the annual Barclays Wealth Community Awards, which are being launched this week.

The Barclays Wealth Community Awards first took place in 2005 but due to the huge success of the scheme, Barclays Wealth Jersey is making the awards an annual event. As with last year, Barclays Wealth is looking to support projects that will make a real difference to local people in a variety of ways.

The Barclays Wealth Community Awards are open to registered charities that have representation in Jersey; they are invited to apply for funding by submitting an application form.

Last year the winners included Jersey Employment Trust for their Speak Out campaign, The Alzheimer’s Society for their Singing for the Brain scheme and the Young Carers Group. Following the large number or worthy applications last year, funding was also given to five additional groups who the judges felt deserved support. The closing date for entries is 30th October 2009 and the winning charitable projects will be announced at a presentation in November.

The entries will be judged by a panel led by Paul Savery, Director, Barclays Wealth in Jersey and will include Adele Langlois, Community Co-ordinator for Barclays Wealth in Jersey, Spencer Davies of Channel 103FM and David Seymour of Seymour Hotels.

Applications are available from Barclays Library Place branch and from its offices in Broad Street and Lord Coutanche House on the Esplanade or by email to adele.langlois@barclayswealth.com.

Paul Savery, Director, Barclays Wealth in Jersey, said: ‘We are delighted to launch the Barclays Wealth Community Awards again this year and hope to see even more entries than last year.

We are enthused that last year’s funding has made a real and lasting difference to the projects run by the winning charities and hope to offer the same benefit to this year’s winners.

We feel it is important to be contributing to the Jersey community, especially in the current global economic downturn, and these awards provide a great opportunity to do this.’
