At BDO Jersey, we are committed to fostering a workplace environment that supports our employees’ personal and professional ambitions. We believe that a healthy work-life balance is key to achieving meaningful and fulfilling work experiences. Our policies and culture are designed to help our staff thrive both in and out of the office.
Rhys Powell, our Audit and Assurance Manager, exemplifies the benefits of this approach. A keen touch rugby player, Rhys is a vital member of the Jersey Touch Association and the BDO team that competes in the corporate league. His dedication to the sport has earned him a spot on the Jersey squad for the 2024 Inter-Insulars match against Guernsey on June 15th and this month Rhys was nominated as the vice-captain for the Jersey team competing in the Touch Rugby World Cup in July. This completion is set to be the largest touch competition ever, with 190 teams representing over 40 nations.

Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) Policy
As one of the largest independent professional services providers in the Channel Islands, we pride ourselves on offering diverse opportunities that ensure meaningful and fulfilling work experiences for our employees. Central to our commitment to employee well-being is our Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) policy. This policy exemplifies our dedication to flexibility and work-life balance. Through TOIL, employees have the freedom to manage their time effectively, ensuring compensation during busy periods while maintaining a happy and balanced workplace atmosphere throughout the year.

Flexibility and Support
Our support for agile working goes beyond mere policy. At BDO Jersey, we recognise the importance of valuing each individual and collectively working towards personal and professional ambitions. Our innovative environment nurtures and develops talent, offering early responsibilities and opportunities to work alongside experienced managers, directors, and partners who respect and appreciate your contributions. It’s this flexibility and support that has allowed Rhys to be in the position he is now.

Inclusive Workplace Culture
In addition to tangible benefits, we prioritise creating a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Our Sports and Social Committee organises regular events to help employees unwind and connect with colleagues outside of the office environment, fostering relationships that go beyond day-to-day tasks.

Wellbeing Committee
Our dedicated wellbeing committee, comprised of staff volunteers, collaborates to ensure holistic well-being. Through monthly themed activities, our initiatives are tailored to support mental, physical, and emotional wellness, reinforcing our commitment to the health and happiness of our employees. At BDO Jersey, agile working isn’t just a policy; it’s a cornerstone of our thriving workplace culture.

Rhys Powell’s achievements on the touch field and his professional success at BDO Jersey illustrate the benefits of our commitment to work-life balance and employee support.
