Five staff at Carey Olsen are tackling a range of challenges in the next few months, aiming to walk a total of 122 miles between them to raise money for charities.
The five have signed up for various events and the charities that are set to benefit include Care and Relief for the Young (CRY) Jersey, Diabetes Jersey, Jersey Mencap and Cancer Research UK among others.
The staff aim to raise over £1,000 and Carey Olsen is supporting them with clothing and £600 towards the participants’ fund raising.
Steven Hunt, director of marketing, said: “Many of Carey Olsen’s 136 staff in Jersey regularly undertake charitable activities and the firm’s partners are delighted to encourage them and regularly contribute financial support, to add to their own fundraising, so that very important charities can benefit.”
Karen Andrieux, secretary in the fiduciary law group, has signed up to participate in six events and walked more than 26 miles in the 2012 London Moonwalk, in aid of grant-making charity Walk the Walk, on 12 May. This event provided an excellent training opportunity as she prepares to walk 48 miles in the Itex Around the Island Walk on 23 June.
Miss Andrieux said: “For us the motivation is being able to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves and to be able to raise funds to enable the charities to continue their important work in and outside Jersey. It is really exciting to be involved as each event brings its own challenges, training techniques and community spirit. We would like to thank Carey Olsen for their support of efforts.”
Sue Cooper, secretary in the litigation group, joined Karen on the 21 mile walk for CRY Jersey on 5 May, the Diabetes North2South Challenge on 6 May and the 2012 London Moonwalk. She will also join her on the Jersey Mencap South Coast Challenge on 20 May and the Race for Life on 27 May. Marianne Bougourd, secretary in the corporate and finance group, participated in the Diabetes North2South Challenge and the 2012 London Moonwalk and is set to take part in the Race for Life.
Danielle Johnson-Kellett, a probate administrator, took part in the Diabetes North2South Challenge and will participate in the Jersey Mencap South Coast Challenge, the Race for Life and the Itex Around the Island Walk. Laura Shore, a corporate secretary, also participated in the Diabetes North2South Challenge.
