The organisation was formed following a well-publicised decision of the St Helier RNLI lifeboat crew to break away from the RNLI and to form an independent lifeboat service in St Helier.

Notwithstanding its establishment, the JLA intends to work collaboratively with the RNLI, like a number of independent lifeboat services in the UK. Former Senator Ben Shenton is chairman of the new organisation.

Kellyann Ozouf, head of the trusts and fiduciary team in Jersey said: "We're delighted to have been able to help establish the JLA. As an island, its services will be vital to those using our coastal waters."

Chairman Ben Shenton said: "My colleagues and I are immensely grateful for the services provided by Collas Crill and for the professionalism shown by its staff throughout the process."
