A number of the island’s largest financial services employers will be attending Jersey International Business School’s Degree Open Evening on Wednesday 03 May 2017.
The event takes place at Jersey International Business School’s University Centre at the Weighbridge at 17:30. Students and their parents are invited to learn more about the two-year BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree. The degree is studied on Island and awarded by the University of Buckingham, one of the UK’s top-ranking universities and currently ranked number one for teaching quality.
Applications to start the degree this October are still being accepted by Jersey International Business School so the open evening will be of particular interest to students in Year 13 who are still considering their Higher Education options.
A key and unique feature of the degree is the opportunity to benefit from paid industry work experience through the Undergraduate Employment Programme (UGEP). With a choice of some of the world’s leading financial organisations, degree students are be able to translate the theory of their degree into practice. Organisations that support the programme include Barclays, Capita, Estera, UBS, Sanne and HSBC. The programme continues throughout the whole two years of the degree.
The open evening will be a chance to meet some of these Undergraduate Employment Programme partners, as well as talk to the faculty and current students about the content and structure of the degree.
Emma Boustouler, degree programme director, comments:
“The forthcoming open evening on 03 May for students who are interested in joining the degree in October is a brilliant opportunity to meet with staff, explore the syllabus and gather details on the Undergraduate Employment Programme.
A number of our UGEP work partners will be available to speak about their graduate offerings, get to know our potential students and provide an insight into the anticipated roles at their companies. All of our current students who applied for a UGEP placement are now working in paid employment two days a week.
Our students are aiming for excellent qualifications and fulfilling careers, and the degree really lays the groundwork for this.”
As applications for the degree are separate to the UCAS process and are still being accepted for October 2017, the Open Evening will be of interest to students in Year 13 still considering their Higher Education options as well as those in Year 12. The degree is also an option for those wanting to change career and those facing uncertainty in their current roles.
Students applying for October 2017 are eligible to apply for a bursary worth up to £6,000. The bursary, which is being funded by the Jersey branch of STEP is for students who have applied, or are going to apply, for a financial services degree in Jersey. STEP Bursary applications must be submitted by 29 May.
The Degree Open Evening takes place at Jersey International Business School on Wednesday 03 May at 17:30, and entry is free for students and parents. Students can find out more about the degree on www.studyinjersey.co.uk/bsc-hons-international-financial-services/
