HSBC, Barclays, UBS, Alex Picot Chartered Accountants and Capita are among the big employers attending JIBS University Centre’s Degree Open Evening on Tuesday 27 September 2016.
The event takes place at Jersey International Business School at the Weighbridge at 17:30. Students and their parents are invited to learn more about the two-year BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree that is studied on Island and awarded by the University of Buckingham.
Students in Year 13 who are currently considering their higher education options, and recent school leavers, are invited to attend the Degree Open Evening. The degree is also an option for those wanting to change career and those facing uncertainty in their current roles.
Students who are accepted onto the degree have the opportunity to apply for unique paid work experience, two days a week for the duration of the course as part of the Undergraduate Employment Programme (UGEP). At the open evening, students can learn all about the benefits of studying the on-island degree and the different approaches taken by each Undergraduate Employment Programme partner in giving paid undergraduate work experience throughout the two years of degree study. A number of UGEP partners, including some of the world’s leading financial services organisations, will have a dedicated area allowing students to talk to company representatives and find out more about the industry sectors they work in and what the companies offer as their UGEP package. This invaluable experience gives students the competitive edge when it comes to employability in the future.
Emma Boustouler, degree programme director, said:
“Young people are faced with a never-ending list of tough choices. Should I do a degree? Should I go to the UK? Where should I study? What should I study? The forthcoming open evening on 27th September provides students with a brilliant opportunity to try and answer some of these questions.
The open evening will be supported by members of our faculty, current students and alumni as well as our partners from the Undergraduate Employment Programme. Students will be able to discuss the opportunities presented by completing a degree at JIBS, such as a UGEP placement which provides students with two days a week of paid work experience. Students can also discuss how the degree has helped our alumni in areas such as personal growth and employment prospects. The overall aim of the evening is to help students to guide their future decisions which will best suit their long-term interests.”
