Sixteen school leavers and university graduates from Jersey, Guernsey and the UK have started client work with Deloitte in the Channel Islands as they commence three and four-year training contracts with the firm.
The new trainees represent a broad range of backgrounds and academic specialisms, from aerospace engineering and physics to archaeology and economics. Their diversity reflects Deloitte’s contextualised recruitment approach. This method gives recruiters a range of standardised data on the candidates’ economic background and personal circumstances. This information allows them to make more informed choices about candidates by considering the context in which their academic achievements have been gained.
In Jersey, trainees include four local school leavers. Shannon Huby studied Mathematics, Business Studies and Psychology at A level at Hautlieu School; Alex Johnson and Cameron Queree both attended De La Salle College and studied A level Biology, Business Studies and History and Mathematics and Statistics respectively. Pierce Walters studied A level Business Studies, History and Psychology at Hautlieu School.
They are joined by two local graduates. Christopher Allo read History at the University of Kent at Canterbury and Amber Harding attended the University of Exeter to read Accounting and Finance.
A further three trainees are relocating to Jersey: Clive Puwai, who attended the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe to read Accounting and Finance, and graduates Asif Riaz who read Accounting and Finance at the University of Kent at Canterbury and Christo Karamfilkov who attended Napier University to read Accounting with Corporate Finance. In Guernsey, the trainees include school leaver Brendan Chapman who studied Economics, Business Studies and Philosophy at A level at the Grammar School. Local graduate Nathan Hazzan also joins, having read Economics at the London School of Economics.
A further five trainees are relocating to Guernsey. Graduates include Jefferiss Mathews from the Isle of Wight who read Archaeology at the University of Southampton, Ed Price from Stroud who read Economics at Cardiff University Business, Ben Ackland-Snow from Chipping Norton, who previously attended the University College of London to read Physics, and Caitlin Grupping from Dollar in Scotland who read Law at the University of Aberdeen. Completing the group is Thomas Malagodi who attended the University of Sheffield and read Aerospace Engineering. Thomas joins on Deloitte’s Brightstart programme.

It’s an encouraging sign for the local recruitment market.’
All trainees are currently completing a month of office and college-based learning to give them essential knowledge and skills. The initial training course is designed to ensure they are settled into the business and have built strong relationships with their mentors, appraisers and buddies before they commence client work.
