Barclays Wealth Jersey is calling for community and charitable groups to enter this year’s Barclays Wealth Community Awards to secure a share of £25,000.

The awards, which are in their fourth year, support projects that will make a real difference to local people in a variety of ways. The Awards are open to registered charities that have representation in Jersey.

Over the past four years, the Awards have provided grants to support a variety of projects, from buying Easter eggs for Meals on Wheels recipients to refurbishing and developing local clubs, such as the Scouts premises in St Ouen, and Gorey and Grand Vaux Youth Projects. Grants have been awarded for both large and small projects, ranging from a few hundred pounds to several thousand pounds.

In 2009, Barclays Wealth helped 11 groups – the leading wealth management firm had intended to give away £25,000 in total, but the judges felt that the projects entered into the Awards were so deserving that they increased the funding to £38,000 in total, with £31,500 going to five project winners and the remainder being split between an additional six projects. The deserving winners included Grace Trust, Brighter Futures, Jersey Women’s Refuge, Headway Jersey and Jersey Cheshire Home. The six additional recipients included Meals on Wheels, Jersey Society for Deaf Children and Young Adults, Milli’s Child Contact Centre, St John’s Youth Project, Gorey Youth Club and the Youth Inclusion Project.

Paul Savery, Managing Director, Barclays Wealth Intermediaries and International Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man, has been on the judging panel since the Awards were launched. ”Every year I am overwhelmed by the number of entries and the quality of community work undertaken in Jersey.  There are so many amazing projects which offer services in the community; for many people these are essential and they all deserve support and recognition.  I am proud that we are able to support these unsung heroes through the Barclays Wealth Community Awards.”

The closing date for entries is Friday 15th October 2010. Entry forms are available from Barclays Library Place branch and from its offices in Broad Street and Lord Coutanche House on the Esplanade, or by email from
