The lunch, held on Thursday 14th May at Longueville Manor, was attended by 61 ladies and hosted by Equiom’s Group Managing Director, Sheila Dean and Equiom (Jersey) Limited’s Non-Executive Director, Heather Bestwick. It included an auction and luxury draw, with prizes donated by local businesses and individuals.
Sheila and Heather have hosted similar fundraising lunches in the past with resounding success. Heather commented: “This was a fabulous event and I’m overwhelmed at the amount of money we have raised for such a worthy cause. I should like to thank all the ladies who attended and also the local businesses and individuals that supported us by donating prizes and auction items. The funds will go to Cancer Research UK’s Research Centre at Southampton Hospital, which will directly benefit Jersey people as the majority of Channel Islands’ cancer patients will visit the hospital at some point in their cancer treatment”.
Shelley Davies, Cancer Research UK’s Senior Local Fundraising Manager for Dorset and the Channel Islands, attended the Ladies’ Lunch and addressed the guests to thank them for their generosity.
She commented: “It was a pleasure to join the Equiom lunch in aid of Cancer Research UK. It was a delight to have the opportunity to address the 61 ladies who joined us and a great opportunity for Nikki Jones, a Jersey Cancer Survivor, to share her personal cancer story with the room.
“Cancer Research UK is the only charity researching into all 200 types of cancer. Our research is pioneering and life saving. This year we announced that 1 in 2 of us will get cancer, but there is hope; our vision is to increase survival rates to 3 in 4 in the next 20 years and it is events like this that will help us get to this goal faster.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all those involved with the lunch. Thanks to events like this, we can help fund life saving research and start changing the future, now”.
The lunch was organised as part of Equiom’s support of Cancer Research UK during 2015, which also includes sponsorship of Jersey’s ‘Relay for Life’ in July. The ‘Relay for Life’ is a volunteer led Cancer Research UK event and Equiom’s Group Business Development Director, Richard Tribe, is Chairman of the Jersey Relay for Life Committee.
