HSBC Bank will officially open its brand new state-of-the-art branch in St Helier’s main pedestrian shopping area today.
The new flagship branch at 15-17 King Street will be opened at a reception at 6pm today, Thursday 11 February, by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant General Andrew Ridgway.
Peter Keenan, Head of Branch Network for HSBC Bank plc, will be the guest speaker at the reception and, in addition, as a reflection of the Bank’s Asian heritage and to bless the new branch, a Chinese dragon will perform a traditional Lion Dance in King Street.
The opening of the new store forms part of the Bank’s £3 million property upgrade initiative in Jersey. It will be the base for the Bank’s Retail and Premier teams and has been designed to feature an open-plan banking hall, a range of automated self-service equipment and a number of private interview rooms.
Specially trained staff will also be on hand to offer guidance and independent financial advice to customers whilst there is a dedicated mortgage centre and an exclusive lounge area for the use of Premier customers. The branch will also open on Saturdays for those who are too busy to get to the bank during the week.
The relocation to King Street marks a move away from HSBC’s former home at the historic building in Library Place.
The King Street store complements the counter service still available at HSBC’s Halkett Street branch and its island-wide network of branches at St Brelade and Five Oaks. Meanwhile, ‘HSBC Regional and Commercial Centre’ in Green Street, where the Bank’s Commercial team is now located, was also opened last month after substantial refurbishment.
Dave Hellen, Regional Director, HSBC in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, said:
“The world of banking and the needs of customers have changed considerably over the years and it is crucial that we evolve as a bank to reflect that. In creating such a modern banking environment in King Street, we aim to make it easier for customers to get everyday banking tasks done, whilst still having the choice of using traditional counter services available at our other branches. The formal opening of our new branch is a very exciting development for HSBC in Jersey and I look forward to showing people our new facilities.”
