The Jersey Association of Trust Companies, the organisation that represents the trust industry in the Island, has decided to support the Jersey committee of Cancer Research UK in 2012. In a new initiative, it is asking each of its member firms to raise around £500 each during 2012 to support the Association’s chosen charity.
The President Alan Binnington said “This is a new initiative for the association. JATCo in the past has supported various charities at its annual dinner with a representative of the charity speaking at the event. We also introduced the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards last year, which recognised the work carried out in the Island by our members, in support of various local charities. “ He continued “This year we have decided to ask our member firms each to raise a small sum so that jointly the trust industry can raise a significant amount to help the charity of our choice – this year it is Cancer Research UK.”
Firms are being asked to raise £500 each, by holding cake sales, dress down days, or other events – they are being directed to Cancer Research’s web site many exciting and innovative fundraising ideas.
Robert Christensen, Chairman of the Jersey Committee of Cancer Research UK and long time JATCo Committee member said “I am delighted that the trust industry is being asked to support such an important charity that is getting real results in the fight to beat cancer. Most people have been touched by cancer in some way; the positive message is that we are starting to beat it. The combined fundraising of the Jersey trust sector can really contribute to help the research into the causes of cancer, means of treating cancer more effectively and ways of reducing the incidence of cancer.”
Alan Binnington added “I am hopeful that our industry will get behind this initiative and also support the two main fund raising initiatives for Cancer Research that will be held in the Island during the year; Race for Life 2012 which be held on 27 May for women and Run4Men in September.”
