Last week, Dr. Rufaro Nyakatawa, our Market Development Consultant – Africa and Elliot Refson, our Head of Funds were delighted to host two exclusive events in South Africa. They also attended the SAVCA Private Equity Conference, which Jersey Finance has been a proud sponsor for the third year in a row.
Led by Dr. Rufaro, the events brought together South African professionals to discuss the shared opportunities and challenges in the country’s evolving financial landscape, with a particular focus on sustainable finance and fund structuring.
These series of events continue to highlight Jersey’s commitment to the region and its growing appeal as an International Finance Centre of choice for South African investors and their clients.

The week began in Cape Town with an exclusive sustainable finance roundtable at the Twelve Apostles. The session formed part of the Sustainable Finance Summit, a series of local and international events focussing on the need to navigate to a low-carbon, resilient, circular and resource-efficient economy.
The roundtable offered industry professionals the opportunity to discuss how sustainable finance is shaping the investment landscape, the challenges in measuring ESG impact and investor demand for sustainable solutions that foster economic growth in South Africa and beyond. Renewable energy, biodiversity and social impact were also key themes discussed during this roundtable.

The final event of the week took place in Johannesburg and brought together funds and wealth management professionals for a funds-focussed roundtable at Sanctuary Mandela. The lunchtime session explored key global fund trends, the rise of tokenisation as well as its impact on structuring, asset raising and private markets.
The event included a fireside chat with Elliot and Dr Eugene van Rensburg, CEO and Co-Founder of EduInno8, where they discussed the growing demand for alternative asset structures, the role of tokenisation in enhancing liquidity and transparency and how South African investment managers can leverage Jersey’s flexible regulatory environment to access global opportunities.
