Brian James has become the latest local finance professional to be awarded the highest level of qualification achievable for Directors by the Institute of Directors.

Brian, a Director of Jersey-based Lloyds TSB Offshore Fund Managers Limited, achieved Chartered Director status after successfully completing the Diploma in Company Direction, becoming the first person to do so through local training agency Forward.

In order to become a Chartered Director, as well as successfully undertaking the IoD qualification, Brian was required to submit a portfolio providing evidence of substantial experience and involvement across a number of key activities that are central to company direction and sound governance. A rigorous and formal assessment by the IoD tests whether applicants successfully combine the qualities of drive, leadership and influence across these key activities.

The IoD Diploma in Company Direction is offered in Jersey through the new Jersey International Business School, with the next course beginning on 29th March 2010. To register for the next course, please contact Siobhan Rondel on 816333. Further information is also available at

Sally Gallichan, Learning Solutions Manager for the Jersey International Business School, said:

“Being awarded Chartered Director status is a highly commendable achievement and Brian should be praised for his success. The IoD Diploma in Company Direction is acknowledged globally as a benchmark qualification for directors and it is encouraging that, by taking professional development seriously, Jersey directors are showing a commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and governance at a time when such qualities are very much in the spotlight.”
