The Voisin & Volaw PGA Channel Islands Challenge returns to Jersey for a second year on 16th and 17th October at Les Mielles Golf & Country Club.

The event is now a major fixture for the golf community. PGA professionals (from the UK) are being encouraged to make a weekend of it and take advantage of the world standard golfing facilities on the Island.

The challenge will begin on Wednesday 16th October where the professionals will compete at Les Mielles Golf & Country Club over 36 holes alongside category one amateur players. An 18 hole Pro-Am will then take place on Thursday 17th October. The event has a professional prize fund of £3,000, including a £750 first prize, with amateur prizes from Titleist and Foot-Joy.

The Pro-Am has been organised by local PGA Professional Alex Mollin, who earlier this year received the Lord Derby Memorial Trophy after surpassing her second year peers on the PGA Foundation Degree. Organisers say the course will be in its best and toughest condition yet, perfect for a challenging PGA competition.

The Voisin & Volaw PGA Channel Island Challenge has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of Voisin law firm and Volaw trust company; golfers from their management team and client base will make up some of the amateur slots but more places are available for local players with an official handicap. Professionals are also being encouraged to bring an amateur partner with them to compete in the two-day event.

Former European Tour Player Wayne Stephens (52) will be defending his title in the 54 hole event. Last year Wayne won the event with a combined 54 hole score of 207, 6 shots ahead of his nearest rivals Mike Deeley (La Moye) on 213 and Mike Lavers (La Moye) on 214.

Alex Mollin, Organiser, says: 'I am delighted that Voisin and Volaw have continued with their support of the PGA Channel Island Challenge.  Last years inaugural event was a huge success and greatly enjoyed by all.  This event is extremely important in that it is the only competition in the C.I that allows PGA professionals to play competitively in a local environment and is something which we hope will continue to grow in the years ahead'.

Ian Strang, Managing Partner, Voisin law firm, added: ‘It’s fantastic to be able to host a professional PGA tournament in the Island and bring talented players to our course to compete alongside our own golfers. We are looking forward to being fully involved over the two days of the challenge and we also want to encourage members of the public to come down and enjoy the event.’
