Jersey has been judged the International Financial Centre of the Year for the second time in 2013.

The inaugural Wealthbriefing European Awards 2013 were launched at a gala dinner in London on Thursday 2nd May, to recognise and celebrate excellence across the European wealth management arena. Wealthbriefing is a leading and well-respected wealth management title from the ClearView publishing group.

Gary Hales, UK, Europe and Russia Head of Business Development  for Jersey Finance, accepted the

Award from the BBC’s Sophie Raworth at the ceremony held at the Royal Courts of Justice in London and attended by  wealth management, private client, investment and banking professionals from across Europe.

An independent panel of experts judged the awards, with additional feedback and views from industry peers and clients. In particular, judges were looking for a jurisdiction that could demonstrate a commitment to delivering innovation and excellence during 2012.

Geoff Cook, CEO of Jersey Finance, commented:

“Jersey continues to work hard to position itself as the leading European wealth management centre, through focusing on the quality and range of its services and by committing to the highest international standards of regulation and cooperation. It is therefore pleasing that this hard work has been acknowledged for the second time this year by a leading specialist wealth management title, following on from Jersey’s success as ‘IFC of the Year’ at the Citywealth Awards in January.”

Last year, Jersey picked up a hat-trick of awards, being judged as the ‘Best Offshore Centre’ in the annual Global Investor Awards, ‘Best International Finance Centre’ at the International Fund & Product Awards and ‘Outstanding International Wealth Financial Centre’ in the Private Banker International Awards.

ClearView Financial Media’s Managing Director, and Publisher of WealthBriefing, Stephen Harris, was first to extend his congratulations to all the winners.  He said: “The firms who triumphed in these inaugural awards are all worthy winners, and I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations.  These awards were judged solely on the basis of entrants’ submissions and their response to a number of specific questions, which had to be answered focusing on the client experience, not quantitative performance metrics.  That is a unique, and I believe, compelling feature.  These awards recognise the very best operators in the private client industry, with ‘independence’, ‘integrity’ and ‘genuine insight’ the watchwords of the judging process – such that the awards truly reflect excellence in wealth management.  I am optimistic that these annual Awards will become one of the brightest highlights in the wealth management calendar.”
