The impact on cross border fund structuring of key decisions being made currently in Westminster is set to fall under the spotlight at this year’s Jersey Finance London Funds Conference.

With just a week to go until the event on 10 September, entitled ‘Beyond Boundaries’ and taking place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, the various outcomes of Brexit, including the possibility of a no deal, on fund distribution will be the focus of one of the panel sessions. In addition, the event will also feature a session looking at how economic substance measures, such as the legislation introduced by Jersey in January this year, are shaping manager structures and influencing jurisdictional decisions.

Meanwhile, a further session will explore shifting approaches to real estate investment, how real estate investment is poised to help meet global challenges and the impact of new capital gains tax rules in the UK. The final session will examine the evolution of alternatives, diversification of strategies and structures including the rise of co-investment, socially responsible investing (SRI), and crypto as an asset class. In addition, Joe Moynihan, CEO of Jersey Finance, and Elliot Refson, Director of Funds at Jersey Finance, will provide an update on Jersey’s role as a global funds hub. As previously announced, keynote speeches will also be given by Todd Buchholz, former Director for Economic Policy at the White House, and BBC history broadcaster Dan Snow.

Joe Moynihan said: “These are vital times for the cross-border funds community. Geopolitical shifts in Europe and further afield, as well as digital innovation and regulatory change are all influencing investor behaviours and challenging managers, but they are also providing opportunities.

“Our conference this year will aim to shed a light on these pivotal areas for global funds professionals and provide clarity around how Jersey, which currently services around £320bn of global fund assets, is ready to support managers and investors in the long term.”
