Thanks to the generosity of Islanders, the Lions Club of Jersey is delighted to announce that this year’s Swimarathon raised an incredible fundraising total of £130,141. Half of the money raised will be donated to five local charities supporting Jersey’s youth, with the remainder distributed to causes selected by the Lions Club.

Around 4,000 swimmers took to water last week at Les Quennevais in the Island’s longest running fundraising event, racking up a staggering 28,000 laps in five days. Money raised came from team sponsorship, Just Giving donations plus from long term event sponsor, RBC Wealth Management, a donation for every lap swum.
President of the Lions Club of Jersey, Lion Andrew Quinn said: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled by this amazing total and are hugely thankful for all the hard work of everyone involved. The money raised will make a huge difference to many local organisations who benefit our community.’ £65,070 will be distributed to five local charities that provide a range of invaluable support services to Jersey’s youth: Brighter Futures, Every Child our Future, Brook Jersey, Brig-y-Don and Jersey Association for Youth & Friendship. The other 50% will provide respite holidays at Maison des Landes Hotel, support the charity Pathways, plus help other good causes throughout the year.

Tim Houghton, Head of Client Experience & Channel Strategy from sponsors RBC Wealth Management added: ‘This is brilliant news for everyone involved in the Swimarathon, especially the five main beneficiaries who deliver excellent support services to our Island’s youth.

‘Having taken part myself with my family, alongside eight teams from RBC, I know what an incredible atmosphere there is poolside. As an organisation, we are delighted to support the Swimarathon and the Lions Club of Jersey, who repeatedly do a remarkable job in organising this five day charity swim year on year.’

‘Staging the Swimarathon is an almost year-long process,’ continues Lion Andrew. ‘I’d like to personally thank everyone who has supported us; from our sponsors RBC Wealth Management who continue to go above and beyond, to the thousands of all ages who took to the pool, to those who sponsored them or came along to offer words of encouragement and finally to all the staff at Les Quennevais.’
