The private bank sponsored the VCP u11’s team’s training and match day kit for the tour, which took place between 9th and 19th February. The 11-day trip was split between three destinations – Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia, and the islands of Singapore. The team played five matches against different schools and age groups, winning three matches and losing two.
Ben Silva, physical education teacher and u11’s cricket coach at VCP, said he was delighted with the quality and maturity that the team demonstrated throughout the tour.
‘As the tour progressed the boys gained confidence, winning the last three matches with some outstanding batting, bowling and fielding performances. On behalf of everyone at VCP, I would like to thank Standard Chartered for sponsoring our kits and helping us to represent the school in style on the tour. I’m looking forward to seeing the boys use the experience to develop their game this season.
The highlights included beating a Penang Free School u16 team and a Tanglin International School u12 side from Singapore in some wonderfully competitive matches. Overall it was a fantastic team performance and the boys can all be proud of their achievements.’
Richard Ingle, chief executive officer at Standard Chartered in Jersey, added: ‘Standard Chartered was delighted to sponsor the kit for the VCP tour of Malaysia and Singapore. We pride ourselves on the work we do in the local community, so it’s always great when we receive positive feedback about the projects we support. The boys clearly had a great time on tour, and I’m sure the experience they gained will prove to be invaluable on the cricket field this season.’
