Each year, at the end of January, Miami becomes a focal point for the US investment industry. This year was no exception. Fund and investment industry professionals flocked to the city for some key conferences and surrounding industry events. Jersey Finance was proud to partner on a number of these. Read on to learn more about the themes discussed and view photos from the events.

IFI Global: Emerging Trends in Alternative Investing

Our first port of call was to partner with IFI Global on an event at the Nautilus Sonesta on ‘Emerging Trends in Alternative Investing’. The session, on 23 January, was hosted by IFI Global CEO Simon Osborn and covered the following areas:

  • The growth in digitalisation
  • How tokenisation impacts private assets and professional investors
  • The move away from traditional pooled funds in alternatives
  • Governance and risk management challenges
  • Product innovation and distribution

Elliot Refson, Jersey Finance’s Head of Funds, provided some opening remarks at the event. Our Americas Lead, Philip Pirecki, was a panellist, together with Dilmun Leach, Partner, Walkers, and a number of US-based lawyers, investment managers and advisors. Also attending this event, and others in Miami, were Jersey Finance CEO, Joe Moynihan, and Stephen Smyth, Senior Country Officer and Head of Securities Services, Channel Islands, JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Miami Finance Forum

Also on 23 January, we sponsored a networking reception with the Miami Finance Forum (MFF). The MFF is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a network for South Florida’s finance professionals. The event took place in the Miami venue Toro Toro and provided an excellent opportunity for the Jersey team to promote our international finance centre and to develop connections with investment industry professionals in the region.

AYU Family Office Summit

Jersey Finance sponsored AYU’s Family Office Summit on 27 January. A boutique conference for family offices and selected guests in the investment industry, the day brought together more than 100 family offices to explore investment opportunities and to collaborate. A small selection of general partners from alternative investment funds and founders raising investment rounds also presented their strategies and businesses. Elliot Refson was a panellist on a popular session titled ‘Asset Tokenisation and the Rise of Fractional Ownership’.

AYU Private Dining: Funds, Family Offices and Tokenisation

Finally, on 28 January, AYU held a private dining event for guests to engage with industry experts, investors and advisors leading in financial innovation. As part of the discussion, AYU highlighted Jersey’s approach to tokenisation and our credentials as a virtual asset jurisdiction, focussing particularly on the ‘Tokenisation of Real-World Asset Guidance’ published by the Jersey Financial Services Commission last year.

This event rounded up two very busy weeks of activity for the Jersey Finance team. View photos of the events below.
