With this year’s Swimarathon all set for a record number of team entries, the organisers, Lions Club of Jersey, will be in town on Saturday 9 January, inviting passers-by to enter into some fun activities in the run-up to the event at Les Quennevais between 9-13 March. Ian Barette, President of The Lions Club said: ‘2016 is shaping up to be a great year for the Swimarathon with only 5% of lanes now available. We wanted to start 2016 with a splash, so on Saturday we are launching a Facebook photo competition for the chance to win a fantastic underwater Nikon camera. ‘So if you are in town in the morning, why not visit us outside BHS where we’ll have a really fun photo board. Passers-by can take their photo and upload them to Facebook using the hashtag #hearmeroarjsy. Plus our sponsors, RBC Wealth Management, will have their mascot Leo the Lion on hand, doing his roaring best to meet as many people as possible.’ 2016 is the tenth year RBC Wealth Management has sponsored the Swimarathon and since their involvement in Jersey’s longest-running charity event, the Swimarathon has raised over £1 million for local causes. The closing date for the Facebook photo competition is 1st March, after which time a winner will be drawn from all correct entries plus some of the photos will be posted on the Lions Swimarathon Jersey Facebook page.’
