The Maples Group is pleased to announce that it will sponsor a sculpture for Durrell’s Tortoise Takeover in Jersey this summer. The initiative, hosted in partnership with Wild in Art, is an island-wide public art trail that aims to bring Jersey’s local community together and also protect some of the most threatened species on the planet.

Commencing in July, the initiative is set to bring a splash of colour to Jersey with 50 uniquely designed large tortoise sculptures placed throughout Jersey’s wild places, coastal vistas and urban hangouts.

As part of the sponsorship, the Maples Group is partnering with local artist Cheryl Muir who is creating an exceptional, soon to be revealed, space themed design on one of the giant tortoises. The Group is also proud to be supporting St. Mary’s Primary School to design a unique young tortoise sculpture that will join the trail as part of the schools and community initiative. Once the trail is complete, the 50 large tortoises will be auctioned to raise money for a new Tropical House at Jersey Zoo. The young tortoises will be returned to the schools and community groups that created them as a lasting legacy of the trail.

Commenting on the new sponsorship, head of the Jersey Office of Maples and Calder, Nick Evans, said: “We are delighted to be a part of this incredible island-wide community initiative this year. We are particularly passionate about sustainability and community engagement at the Maples Group. We are also proud to be supporting St. Mary’s Primary School, demonstrating our commitment to support environmental and local projects here in Jersey.”

Senior Vice President, Head of Fiduciary Services Robert Lucas, in Jersey said: “Durrell’s Tortoise Takeover is a very exciting initiative and we are thrilled to be part of something that will enrich our community here in Jersey while ensuring the conservation of our wildlife creatures.”
