Jonathan Speck has been appointed as the Managing Partner of Mourant Ozannes' Jersey office, taking over from Daniel Birtwistle who steps down from the role after a three year term.

Jonathan was called to the English Bar in 1990 and was sworn in as a Jersey Advocate in 1994. He has been a partner of Mourant Ozannes since 1996 and is joint head of the firm's International Trusts & Private Client (ITPC) practice in Jersey. He has played a major role in virtually all of the most high-profile, high value and complex trust disputes in Jersey in recent years. According to Chambers Global he is the only star-rated litigator in Jersey and is rated by Citywealth as one of the Top 5 contentious trust lawyers in the world. Jonathan speaks regularly on trusts and private client matters and is highly sought after as a speaker at conferences across the world. Jonathan will continue with his ITPC work in his role as Jersey Managing Partner.

Daniel Birtwistle led the Jersey office through an exciting period, resulting in Mourant Ozannes winning the prestigious 'Best Offshore Law Firm' accolades at both the British Legal Awards and the Chambers Europe Awards in 2013. As Managing Partner of the Jersey office, Daniel has also taken an active role in the firm's major sponsorships during the year: the Youth Education Campaign of Jersey Heritage and the Mourant Ozannes Relay Race for the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon.

Jonathan Rigby, Global Managing Partner of Mourant Ozannes, said: "We are very fortunate indeed that Jonathan has accepted the position of Managing Partner of the Jersey office.  He has many fine qualities that will stand him in good stead as the senior figurehead for the office and an ambassador for Mourant Ozannes in Jersey. I would like to thank Daniel for the tremendous contribution that he has made during his time as Jersey Managing Partner and I know that Jonathan will be drawing on Daniel's experience as he leads the office through the next phase in its development."

Jonathan Speck commented: "I am delighted to be taking on the role of Managing Partner in Jersey.  Under Daniel's stewardship, our team here has continued to build on Mourant Ozannes' excellent reputation and to receive plaudits for their exceptional service.  I look forward to working with my Jersey colleagues to demonstrate just how impressive is our offering here.  And I look forward to working with my colleagues in our other offices in the BVI, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Hong Kong and London: no other offshore firm has the same ability to provide such a seamless, first-class service in all its jurisdictions."
