The Hong Kong office of leading offshore law firm, Mourant Ozannes, goes from strength to strength with headcount nearly tripling since opening, with further staff to join and more expansion anticipated in the year ahead.
Since opening in Hong Kong in 2012, the office has grown to 18 members of staff, with IFLR citing that Mourant Ozannes are 'very responsive and a great team'.
In the past 12 months eight new starters have joined the office and turnover has doubled. This increase in headcount, which includes the arrival of Claire Fulton as Counsel, previously in the banking and finance practice at Hogan Lovells in Hong Kong, Penelope Shen, Senior Associate, from the funds team at Deacons in Hong Kong, Paul Trewartha, joining from the legal team at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong and Jessica Lee, from the corporate practice at Linklaters in Hong Kong, provide extra strength and depth to an already highly commended team. In addition, Laura Popham has been hired as Business Development Executive to support and drive the business development strategy.
The seniority of the team continues to grow with these experienced hires, together with promotions within the office. Danielle Roman, who has been with the firm since the launch of the Hong Kong office, and praised for being 'attentive and responsive' by leading legal directories, has been promoted to Counsel. As a specialist in banking and finance, Danielle advises major financial institutions, corporates and high net worth individuals on banking and finance transactions.
The Hong Kong office has also benefited from the arrival of two secondees in the last six months, Sophie Reguengo, Senior Associate from the Jersey office and Tracey Forbes, Associate from the Cayman office, leveraging experience from across the firm's network.
Paul Christopher, Hong Kong managing partner said: "Our Asian business has grown significantly over a relatively short period of time. We have been instructed on some of the most complex and high profile deals in the region. The growth of the office underpins the importance of the Asia market for Mourant Ozannes, and our commitment in providing a technically excellent, high quality offshore service in Asia."
Global managing partner, Jonathan Rigby added: "We have added some excellent recruits to an already impressive team in Hong Kong. Over the past couple of years the office has delivered fantastic results for our clients based in Asia. The success of the office has been down to the talented individuals based in Hong Kong who are able to advise on the laws of the BVI, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey."
