Kleinwort Benson is the new sponsor of the Muratti.

The bank has signed a three year deal with the Channel Islands Inter-Insular Football Committee that will secure sponsorship for the mens and womens competitions until 2012.

Kleinwort Benson’s sponsorship does not only benefit Jersey and Guernsey but also Alderney, who participates under the ‘Inter Insular’ banner and this year will host Jersey on Saturday 20 March, with the winners earning the right to meet Guernsey in the Kleinwort Benson Muratti Final at Springfield Stadium on Saturday 8 May.

Ricky Weir, President of the Inter Insular Football Committee and Jersey Football Association, who has been working closely with Kleinwort Benson for several weeks to secure their support, said: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to get an institution of Kleinwort Benson’s standing on board to support the islands’ premier sporting event for the next three years.

“Sponsorship is the lifeblood of grass roots sport, so to have secured the support from Kleinwort Benson is a wonderful boost for Channel Islands football. In a financial climate where costs are being cut and sponsorship budgets severely curtailed, this move only serves to demonstrate what a fantastic commitment Kleinwort Benson has made to local sport in all three islands by choosing to associate themselves with such a prestigious and historic event and trophy.

“On behalf of the Inter Insular Committee we look forward to establishing a strong and amenable working relationship with Kleinwort Benson over the next three years, to maximise the value and benefit of this sponsorship deal to the mutual benefit of both parties.”

Mark Le Tissier, Chairman of the Guernsey Football Association, reiterates Weir’s words.

“We are delighted that Kleinwort Benson has demonstrated a confidence in Channel Island football and the community. We very much hope they enjoy the experience of being a part of the biggest annual sporting event in the Channel Islands.”

Angus Taylor, Managing Director of Kleinwort Benson in Jersey, said: “Having been established in Jersey and Guernsey for more than 45 years ourselves, we recognise that the Muratti is one of the most historic Channel Island events in the local sporting calendar and we are very pleased to be able to support it. The Muratti is as much part of Channel Islands community life as it is sport, so we are looking forward to developing that community spirit with our sponsorship.”

The 2010 Kleinwort Benson Muratti Vase Final will take place in Jersey at the Springfield Stadium on the revised date of Saturday 8 May.

The change of date is due to Guernsey’s potential involvement in the final of the National League Systems Cup, which takes place on the same weekend as the original scheduled date – Bank Holiday Monday 3May.

At present the Kleinwort Benson Womens Muratti Final remains on Sunday 2 May in Jersey, but this is also subject to change due to the possibility that Guernsey may be asked to host the NLS Cup final on the same date. The Inter Insular Committee is keen to avoid clashing with the Siam Cup, which is also being played in Guernsey on the same weekend.
