This year two separate trophies will be awarded to recognise the tremendous fundraising efforts of families and school teams, judged on the amount raised per person. Funds raised by the winning teams and all other participants will be donated to Oakwell Children’s Respite Centre – the main beneficiary of this year’s event – and 25 other charities revealed for the first time below. President of the Lions Club of Jersey, Lion Chris Clarke said: ‘It is great to have these two trophies to acknowledge families and schools that work so hard to make an invaluable contribution to the charity beneficiaries. It was a hard task to select just 25 recipients, and we would like to thank all those that applied.’

One of the chosen beneficiaries of this year’s event is St Lawrence Youth Club, which provides young people between the ages of 9 and 11 years with a weekly programme of activities in a safe environment.  They also organise team-building trips that include residential weekends to Crabbé and St Aubin’s Fort.

Toni Holford, Senior Youth Worker at the St Lawrence Youth Project, said: ‘Working with young people at this age is really important as they are able to form strong links within the Youth Club before they move to secondary school and begin the often challenging journey from childhood to adulthood. The funds we receive will be used to help build out our club programme with even more exciting opportunities that will help the social and physical development of the parish’s youth. We are delighted and grateful to have been chosen as a beneficiary.’

Chris Blampied, Head of Banking, RBC Wealth Management said: ‘The decision to focus on charities that benefit children has highlighted the valuable work that these organisations do, often unseen. We would therefore encourage everyone to challenge themselves for a chance to lift these two fundraising trophies – it would be fantastic to beat last year’s fundraising total.’

The 2014 Swimarathon takes place between 12–16 March 2014 at Les Quennevais Sports Centre. Donations can be made by sponsoring a swimmer or through the Just Giving website:
