Ogier joined forces with Offshore Professional Conferences to stage the 5th annual Investment Funds Update Conference in Jersey on Tuesday 8 November 2011 at the L'Horizon Hotel.
The one day event examined the position of Jersey in respect of the latest challenges and pressure faced by the investment management industry. A top line up of speakers gave updates on Jersey regulation, legislation and tax considerations as well as what impact the Alternative Investment Fund Manager Directives and other international developments from the US and the EU may have on Jersey's future.
Tim Morgan, Partner, Ogier chaired the conference and said "With nearly £200 billion in funds under administration the funds sector is a crucial contributor to the success of Jersey's finance industry. This conference allowed us to consider and debate factors that are vital in ensuring our continued success with funds at a time of significant change and potentially opportunity."
Other speakers included Nigel Strachan, Chairman Jersey Funds Association who spoke about the future of the funds industry in Jersey; Roland Mills, Partner, PwC on fund migration; Stephanie Biggs, Partner, Kirkland & Ellis International LLP on UK & US regulatory developments; Wendy Dorman, Tax Partner, PwC gave a tax update; Mark Russon, Business Development Manager, London Stock Exchange updated delegates on Quoted Funds on the London Stock Exchange; Niamh Lalor, Managing Associate, Ogier spoke about the latest and proposed legal developments in Jersey; and Oliver Morris, currently seconded from KPMG to the British Venture Capital Association, led a session on the AIFM directive and its impact on Jersey.
