The Portsmouth FC side will have several current England internationals for the match, which will be played on Sunday 21st July kicking off at 1pm, in front of the Old Station Café in St Aubin's Bay. The match is being sanctioned by the JFA and has full support of new CEO Neville Davidson.
Will Partington of Beach Soccer Jersey and assistant Davide Pita are putting together a Jersey team that has lots of experience and they are confident they can win the match.
Will recently obtained the rights to promote the beach soccer league of Brazil in Great Britain. This includes promoting teams such as Flamengo, Locomotiv Moscow, Sporting Lisbon, Ajax Amsterdam and many others. Portsmouth FC is the first team in England to create a Beach Soccer unit and Will's colleague from his England Beach Soccer playing days, Jamie O'Rourke, is heading up the project. Jamie has represented England for many years.
Will Partington said: "For many years the rest of the world has promoted Beach Soccer through its established club sides and now England is catching up, with Portsmouth being the first English club to establish a beach soccer team. It's a pleasure to be able to welcome them over for what promises to be a great chance to witness some high quality beach soccer in Jersey. Portsmouth have in my opinion the best beach soccer player in the UK in Giancarlo Giancovich – more commonly known as 'GC' – so it should be an exciting match."
Paul Shevlin, Chief Operating Officer, Deutsche Bank, added: "There is an excellent infrastructure for beach soccer now in place in Jersey, thanks to the hard work Will continues to put in to developing the sport locally. While beach soccer has been warmly welcomed by pupils through our development program, being able to invite an English club side to play the Jersey team will help raise the profile of the sport further."
