Rathbones has teamed up with Jersey’s Wimbledon star Scott Clayton, offering him a one year sponsorship deal.
Scott, who is based in London while training, is being coached by Louis Cayer who also coaches the world No. 9 doubles player Jamie Murray, the five-time Grand Slam doubles winner and a Davis Cup champion.
The 23-year-old doubles player, who became the first Jerseyman to play at Wimbledon when he made his Grand Slam debut this summer, is hoping to break into the top 100 with his partner Jonny O’Mara and make a return to the famous grass courts in 2018.
The deal will help cover his expenses while he’s away in Europe and India playing on the ATP Challenger Tour, a series of international men’s professional tennis tournaments, along with funding new kit for the tour too.
Speaking about the sponsorship, Rathbones Deputy Managing Director, Phil Bain said, “We’re delighted to be supporting Scott and look forward to following his and Jonny’s progress on court as they compete at this high level. “It was fantastic to watch them take on the top seeds at Wimbledon and we hope they’ll be competing there again next summer.”
Thrilled to have the support from Rathbones, Scott said, “I am incredibly grateful to Rathbones for their support. I am looking forward to the challenges of the ATP tour and the generous funding from Rathbones will certainly ensure I am in top form as I head into the series.”
Scott and Jonny were beaten in round two of the men’s doubles at this year’s Wimbledon, losing to top seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers 3-6,4-6,4-6. Their first round victory against Adrian Mannarino and Paolo Lorenzi helped Scott’s rankings go up about sixty places, which has, with further recent wins, elevated him to number 142 in the world.
