The date for the 2010 Lions Club of Jersey Swimarathon has been announced and entries are already flooding in.

Thousands of swimmers will be making waves at Les Quennevais pool from 3rd March to 7th March 2010 to raise money for local charities.

Last year, 390 teams raised a record-breaking £135,000 with a significant proportion going towards new anti-collision equipment for the Channel Islands Air Search plane, ‘Lions Pride’.

Organisers are optimistic about an equally successful event next year – over 300 of the teams which took part in 2009 have already signed up for the 2010 event.

In anticipation of even more demand, the Lions Club has increased capacity for participants by an additional 16 teams to 420 teams. With eight people in each team, the 2010 Swimarathon could see over 4,000 participants take to the pool over the course of the event.

Eric Bertrand, President of Lions Club of Jersey, said:

‘The planning and organisation are very much underway for the 2010 Swimarathon. We’ve already received a fantastic response from teams who took part in the 2009 event. Everyone involved works hard to raise a phenomenal amount of money for local causes and we hope to repeat this success next year.’

‘With the support of Swimarathon sponsor RBC Wealth Management, we are once again looking forward to an event which promises to be even bigger and better than before.’

Paul Patterson, Head of RBC Wealth Management in the British Isles, hopes to see even more staff members taking to the pool next March.

‘We’re very proud to be supporting the Swimarathon again and as always, I’m sure there will be a large contingent of RBC staff taking part. Traditionally we see a tremendous level of support from our employees for this event and I am sure 2010 will be no exception.’

Anyone considering entering a team in 2010 is urged to submit their entry form early to avoid disappointment. Forms can be requested via email at or by calling 01534 878078.
