The Jersey Association of Trust Companies (JATCo) is holding its second fiduciary seminar on the 5th October, following huge success in its inaugural year. The event is being held in association with the Jersey Bankers Association (JBA) Trust sub-committee which meets with JATCo on a quarterly basis, to discuss trust issues. The annual three hour event gives members the opportunity to address and discuss current topics relevant to the trust industry and helps with their CPD requirements.

Subjects covered this year will include:

• Developing Jersey’s Tax Policy
• UK Residence and domicile
• The Interplay between the regulatory laws, associated laws and the regulatory codes/guidance
• Trust Law amendments
• Data Storage – why the jurisdiction matters

Nick Landor, President of JATCO said “We had a great response to our event in 2010 and believe that the speakers and subjects that we have lined up this year will be equally stimulating and interesting. The trust industry is facing a number of challenges and changing conditions (as are most sectors of the economy) and we want our members to be abreast of the situation and have a market advantage. The event will cover a variety of subjects, encourage debate and inform opinion.

He continued “We are offering members a cost effective way to gain insight from some of the leading authorities on trust and related matters while meeting their CPD requirements.

The event is being sponsored by Foreshore the offshore data centre and internet service provider. CEO of Foreshore, Chris Evans, is leading a session looking at the often neglected but significant issue of data storage and its implications for risk ratings. Businesses that recognise this can attract new clients by ensuring data is domiciled in a well-regulated jurisdiction that has the appropriate legislation and this presentation will demonstrate Jersey’s position in this context.”

Other speakers at the event are:

• Wendy Martin, Director of Tax Policy, States of Jersey
• Chris Lintott, Penningtons
• Anthony Thompson, Lawrence Graham
• Geoff Cook, Chief Executive, Jersey Finance
• Mathew Beale, Comsure Group
• Olaf Blakeley
• Giles Corbin, Mourant Ozannes
• Alan Binnington, RBC
