The children of Mont à l'Abbé Primary School will be harvesting Jersey Royals, which they planted in March, and learning how to cook a potato salad with Michelin starred chef Shaun Rankin at 10am on 27th June.

The children of Mont à l'Abbé Primary School planted Jersey Royals in their new vegetable garden with Shaun Rankin back in March. The event was kindly organised and sponsored by Voisin law firm and Volaw Trust Company whose staff also got involved on planting day.

Once the potatoes have been dug, Shaun will be showing the children how to prepare the special salad, utilising other local ingredients.

The cookery class has again been organised by Voisin and Volaw who have been arranging initiatives at Mont à l'Abbé Primary School for over four years. The practical classes, which include growing vegetables and cooking, are essential to the children’s sensory learning.

During the morning the children will have the opportunity to learn how to cook the potatoes and Shaun will be sharing his knowledge about the nutritious benefits and versatility of Jersey Royals.

Shaun Rankin, Head Chef, Bohemia, commented:

‘I am really pleased the children enjoyed growing the Jersey Royals. They did a great job of planting them in March and I hope we will be harvesting a bumper crop on 27th June. I am looking forward to preparing a simple recipe with them that they can maybe try again at home with their parents during BBQ season.’

Sharon Eddie, Head Teacher, Mont à l'Abbé Primary School, added:

‘The children are very fond of Shaun after so many cookery classes and initiatives arranged by Voisin and Volaw. We are very grateful for their organisation and commitment to the children at Mont à l'Abbé Primary School.’
