Jersey law firm Sinels has appointed Marcus Stemmer-Baldwin to head up its award winning litigation and dispute resolution practice.

In his role as Head of Litigation, Marcus will lead Sinels’ team of litigation lawyers, which has earned a formidable reputation for achieving the best results for clients in both commercial and civil disputes. As well as advising clients and preparing cases for trial, Marcus will also take on business development and team management responsibilities for the firm.

With over 17 years of litigation experience in both onshore and offshore environments, Marcus has specific expertise in commercial disputes and contractual matters as well as in-depth knowledge spanning civil litigation, personal injury and fatal accident claims, divorce and family issues.

Marcus joins Sinels from the Cayman Islands law firm of Ritch & Conolly, where he worked for six years. Prior to that, he practised for over a decade as a barrister in London, lately at 22 Old Buildings (now 42 Bedford Row). Having studied law at Kent University, Marcus qualified as a Barrister in 1994 and subsequently as an Attorney at Law in the Cayman Islands in 2006. He is also a Member of the Honourable Society of Inner Temple.

In his spare time, Marcus enjoys deep sea fishing and walking.

Senior Partner of Sinels, Philip Sinel, said:

“It is a pleasure to welcome Marcus to a new and key position at Sinels during an exciting time for the firm. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary this year, our team of lawyers is expanding and we are targeting growth across our practice areas. With his wealth of experience in the UK and the Caribbean, Marcus’ appointment is a vital one as we look to affirm our position as a leading law firm in Jersey for litigation and dispute resolution services.”

Marcus added:

“Sinels has an outstanding track record for dispute resolution and litigation in Jersey and I am delighted to take on the mantle to ensure that we continue to offer a high quality, market-leading service. Against the backdrop of a persistently volatile economic environment, both commercial and civil litigation can be hugely complex, but the team of lawyers at Sinels are undoubtedly geared up to rising to that challenge and supporting clients to an exceptionally high standard.”
