Sixteen students in Year 12 at Victoria College and Jersey College for Girls are enrolled on a week-long work experience programme starting on Monday July 19.
‘Life in Finance’, which is organised by Jersey Finance, takes students on a journey of a typical working life cycle. It is designed to educate students about a career in the finance industry as well as give them an understanding of the industry.
Students are matched with a company participating in the scheme and undertake a week of work experience with their new employer. As well as assisting the company in its day to day running, students are also given the opportunity to consider how life events such as promotion, marriage and children can affect their career. The week ends with a ‘retirement’ party hosted by Jersey Finance where the students can reflect on what they have learned.
Carla Harris, communications manager at Jersey Finance, commented:
“’Life in Finance’ is a practical way for students to learn about the finance industry and the diverse careers opportunities it offers. It is also a great tool to get them thinking about the issues that could affect their future careers, however distant they may seem. The success of the scheme relies on a range of companies within the finance industry participating and there is still space for finance firms to be involved. Jersey Finance Members can contact us if they would like further information about the scheme.”
A group of students from Year 12 and 13 from Hautlieu will also complete the work experience programme in August.
